Sometimes the audience needs to suspend disbelief for the purpose of engaging focus on the thematics. Many points of the movie aim to show the disconnect between parent child relationships rather than being explicitly realistic.
More so it is about the theme which is about learning proper parental responsibilities. The point is its an evolving narrative and at it progresses the story in each scene.
